'Maybe Tomorrow' release details up on the 'You Gotta Go There To Come Back' page. It will also be the first official single released here in Australia. It will be out for when they tour here on their supposed "acoustic" tour late July.

Well its only a bit over a week old, but the Stereophonics' album 'You Gotta Go There To Come Back' has gone platinum in the UK, selling over 300,000 copies.

Their 'You Gotta Go There To Come Back' has entered the UK charts in the number 1 position. It sold over 100,000 in the first week, making it the highest selling album in its first week of release this year. Well done boys!

The album 'You Gotta Go There To Come Back' is released in the UK, Japan and Europe today. After a bit over two years since their last album, a new 13 track album has hit the shops. Out on CD, Ltd CD, LP and Cassette. Australia won't see the release of the album till the end June.

Well nothing much has happened of late, but now there is news!! Their new single, 'Madame Helga' will be released on May 19, with their forthcoming album, 'You Gotta Go There To Come Back', out on June 2.
They will also play a huge concert at the Dublin Castle on May 5.

'Just Enough Education to Perform' has just been reissued in Australia with the hit song 'Handbags and Gladrags' added to the album's tracklisting.

Just when you thought Australia wouldn't get another single release, today saw the unexpected release of 'Handbags and Gladrags'. This is the second release off their 'Just Enough Education to Perform' CD (the first was 'Have a Nice Day').

The Stereophonics appear on the new 'Undercover Angels' compilation for the TV show of the same name. Ian "Thorpedo" Thorpe is the shows host. 'Have a Nice Day' is the song that appears on this CD.

The Stereophonics are to headline Slane 2002, a massive concert in Ireland. It occurs on Saturday 24th August and they will be joined by: Nickelback, the Doves, the Counting Crows with more to be announced.

Speaking to the NME recently, Kelly said the band is heading into the studio in October to record the follow up to 'Just Enough Education to Perform'. Apparently six tracks have been demoed with another ten to be completed later.

Exactly a year after it's release, their 'J.E.E.P' album is still in the charts. Unfortunately their 'Vegas Two Times' single only entered at #23 in the charts, their lowest entry since '...Tramps Vest' five years ago.

The Stereophonics added yet another award to their mantle piece, they took out 'Best Band' at the Capital Radio Awards. During his acceptance speech Kelly had a dig at Kylie Minogue.

The Stereophonics will join the Chemical Brothers and Travis as the headline acts for V2002 which happens on August 17&18. Other acts confirmed to play the event include Badly Drawn Boy, Groove Armada, Supergrass, Primal Scream, Starsailor and Stereo MC's with more to be announced.

Ex-Catatonia singer Cerys Matthews is teaming up with the Stereophonics for a one-off charity show. The performance occurs at the King's Cross venue on April 18, alongside the likes of Placebo, Embrace and Pulp's Jarvis Cocker.

Just when there wasn't to be a fifth single, now there is. 'Vegas Two Times' will be the fifth and final single to be released off million+ selling album JEEP and will be released on April 1st. And this time there will be a DVD single with a stack of audio-visual features.

15 Jan 2002 Stickman Stuart Cable has pulled out of their current tour of Japan. Owen Hopkin, drummer with indie band, The Crocketts, has replaced him for the Japanese tour only. He has pulled out due to "family reasons".
14 Jan 2002 The Stereophonics are back at number one on the album charts. After 40 weeks, 'JEEP' is back at number one. It is one of the few albums to ever go back to number one. Last year it debuted at number one...well done boys.
11 Jan 2002 Kelly Jones collaborates with ex-Rolling Stones and ex-The Faces guitarist Ron Wood. He is just one of a number of artists to work with the guitarist on his new album 'Not For Beginners', which was released in November 2001. Kelly features on the track 'What Do You Think'.
6 Jan 2002 Not much news at the moment, but their album has jumped back up to number 2 on the UK charts. Obviously due to the xmas re-release of their 'JEEP' album.
7 Decemeber 2001 Don't forget to purchase the CD2 of the new single 'Handbags & Gladrags'. It will be part of the Stereophonics Acoustic Boxset which holds all four CD2 singles released off the 'JEEP' album, plus will come with an exclusive acoustic CD available only in this boxset! Unfortunately you have to part of their mailing list which is only open to UK residents.
7 December 2001 Tour news. The Stereophonics are to return to the US in January for their rescheduled tour. They will head to Japan just before though. So close to Australia yet so far. 6 December 2001 The Stereophonics have achieved a number 4 debut on the UK singles charts with their new single 'Handbags & Gladrags'. Their previous highest debut was number 5 - 'Mr. Writer' and 'Bartender and the Thief'. Onya boys! 18 November 2001 The band recently shot a new version of 'Have A Nice Day' - for the US market only though. Hopefully it will break them in the US. 17 November 2001 The Stereophonics will finally make their debut appearance on the 'David Letterman' show. They have had to cancell two other times, but will most likely perform 'Have A Nice Day' on Tuesday, December 11th (US time). 14 November 2001 "J.E.E.P" is to be re-released in the UK only on November 26th and will include 2 bonus tracks - Handbags & Gladrags, which is released as a single on the same day, and Suprise (Piano for a Stripper) which was a b-side on the 'Have a Nice Day' single. A money grabber for Xmas? 18 October 2001 The track listing for 'Handbags And Gladrags' have just been announced. They are: CD1: Handbags and Gladrags, First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, How CD2: Handbags And Gladrags, Caravan Holiday, Nice To Be Out (all live) 7": Handbags And Gladrags, First Time Ever I Saw Your Face DVD single: Handbags And Gladrags video, Handbags And Gladrags acoustic video, Mr. Writer live video 10 October 2001 Well 'Vegas Two Times' was to be the fourth single released, but according to NME.COM the cover version of Rod Stewart's 'Handbags and Gladrags' will now be the next single released although it does not appear on the 'JEEP' album. It will be released November 26 around the time of their UK tour and will be backed with another cover - Roberta Flack's classic 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face'.
4 Sept 2001 The fourth and final single to be taken from their Double Platinum album, 'Just Enough Education to Perform', will be 'Vegas Two Times'. It will be released around the time of their November UK tour and maybe a ltd tour edition. 1 Sept 2001 Is 'Handbags & Gladrags' to get Christmas Release? There are rumours floating around that the song 'Handbags & Gladrags' is to be released as a single in late November, to co-incide with the bands UK Tour. Kelly was quoted in saying on MTV show Daily Edition that the band have recorded a studio version of the song and would be releasing it before Christmas. It was written by Mike D'abo, but Rod Stewart made it famous, with Kelly performing it on his acoustic tour last year which it featured at every gig, both in the UK and North America, on that tour. Kelly also performed it with a full orchestra live on Jools Holland's annual Hootenanny last new years eve. 30 August 2001 In an interview with www.worldpop.com, the Stereophonics have said they will be previewing some new songs this November when they kick off their UK & Ireland Tour. No titles have been given as yet. 24 August 2001 The Stereophonics are heading to the US for a North American tour in Septemeber. Only six dates are confirmed so far, check the 'Tour Dates and Reviews' page. 16 August 2001 The Stereophonics have added two shows for their forthcoming arena tour. - London Wembley Arena, on November 18. - Glasgow SECC, on November 25. 9 August 2001 The third single to be released off the 'JEEP' album will be released on four formats - 2CD SET, MC and 7". Available as a 5-track CD, it includes the following b-sides 'Surprise', 'Piano for a Stripper', 'Heart of Gold (Live from York Grand Opera House)' and 'Have a Nice Day (Live from Birmingham Irish Centre)'. 24 June 2001 All 5 members of the Stereophonics appeared on Top Of The Pops and performed their new single 'Have a Nice Day'. Although Kelly's vocals were live, the music wasn't. 20 June 2001 The 'Phonics are to headline the first ever 'virtual' festival at Glastonbury 2001 on Friday June 22. They get on at 10pm after Coldplay, the Pretenders and Orbital.
11 June 2001 'Have A Nice Day' is released today in the UK. Available as a 2CD set, MC and a 7 inch. CD1 b-sides include 'Surprise', and 'Piano for a Stripper'. CD2 b-sides include 'Have a Nice Day (Live from Birmingham Irish Centre)', 'Heart of Gold (Live from York Grand Opera House)' and 'I Stopped to Fill My Cup (Live from Birmingham Irish Centre)'. 20 April 2001 The Stereophonics are contibuting a song for the Who tribute album. The album, titled 'Substitute - The Songs Of The Who', was released on May 28. Other bands to contribute a song on this 11 track album include Cast, Pearl Jam and Paul Weller. The 'Phonics cover 'Who Are You', with Kelly Jones featuring on vocals on the CD-ROM video recording of 'Substitute' from the band's show at the London Royal Albert Hall. 19 April 2001 'Have A Nice Day' will be the next single released off their 'Just Enough Education to Perform' album, it will be released June 11. 18 April 2001 The Stereophonics confirmed today that their 'Day At The Races' show at Chepstow has been moved to Cardiff Millenium Stadium because of the foot and mouth crisis. The preceding 'Day At The Races' show at Donington Park on July 14 is unaffected. All tickets are valid. 16 April 2001 As anticipated 'Just Enough Education to Perform' debuted at #1, it took over Hear'Say with their 'Popstars' album.
26 March 2001 'Mr. Writer' has debuted in at #5 on the UK charts. The album, 'Just Enough Education to Perform' will be released April 9 (UK), April 17 (Aust). 18 March 2001 The Stereophonics are to co-headline T in The Park along with Texas on July 8 in Scotland. Others confirmed to play include Placebo, Toploader, Snow Patrol, My Vitriol, King Adora, Ash, Grandaddy, JJ72 and many more. The 'Phonics have also been confirmed as support to U2 on certain dates of their European tour. See the tour dates page for details. 13 March 2001 The Stereophonics help kick off the new series of 'Later With Jools Holland' with a live performance on April 13. The show will also feature performances from REM, Air, Manic Street Preachers and Stereo MC's on later dates. 7 March 2001 The Stereophonics have been confirmed to be on of the headline acts at the 'MTV Five-Night Stand' event in London on the 18th of April. Other headliners on the other nights include Papa Roach, Toploader, Damage and 5ive. 
28th February 2001 Finally the covers for the two-part 'Mr. Writer' single has been revealed - see above. The album's artwork is just to the right. I find the album's cover a bit off par for the Stereophonics, very different to their first two albums...hmmm. 27th February 2001 The Stereophonics' official website, www.stereophonics.co.uk, has been made available a live acoustic version of 'Don't Let Me Down' originally recorded by the Beatles. The track will feature as a B-side on CD2 of the new Stereophonics single, 'Mr Writer', due out March 19 through V2. 19th February 2001 The Stereophonics are amongst artists featured in a new radio documentary series tracing the history of Welsh rock from the '50s to the present. Called 'The Dragon's Breath', it took two years to make and will also feature the Manic Street Preachers, The Alarm, Tom Jones, Feeder, Badfinger and Cerys Matthews (Catatonia). Producer Darren Broome and presenter John Rhys Harris have previously produced a documentary on the Stereophonics. 16th February 2001 Stuart is a father! The drummer and wife Nichola have fathered a baby boy. Named Cian, he was born at 9pm - all are said to be healthy.
16 February 2001 Car manufacturer Daimler Chrysler have told the Stereophonics that they can not use the acronym 'J.E.E.P' as the title for their forthcoming album. They produce the car (obviously) called the 'Jeep' and hence own that name. So the album is now the extended name 'Just Enough Education to Perform'. 19 January 2001 The first single to be release off the 'J.E.E.P.' album will be a song called 'Mr. Writer'. It will be available on two CDs and 7" vinyl on the 19th of March. For all 'J.E.E.P.' details, click to this link: 15 January 2001 The first official book on the Stereophonics will be released in the UK on 29 March 2001 - no word about Australia yet. Entitled 'JEEP - Just Enough Evidence to Print', it charts the band's history - from their formation in 1996 right up to the completion of the forthcoming album 'JEEP'. The biography will be written by BBC Radio 1 journalist Danny O'Connor, who is a friend of the band. 22nd November 2000 The Stereophonics have just announced two huge UK gigs for next summer (Australia's winter). The first concert occurs at Donington Racetrack on July 14th and at Chepstow Racecourse on the 21st. |
